Rocking

Whenever Davis feels bad, he really enjoys being rocked. He has been feeling bad the past two nights, so a few times each night, I've gone in and picked him up, sat in the rocker, and just rocked him until he falls asleep or calms down at least. Last night was no exception, I rocked him for a while, sitting the way we always do- he is facing me, legs on either side of my body, head against my chest, his arms tucked underneath my arms or down by his side.

He likes it when I sing, so I sang "Yellow Moon" and "I'll take your love" by Don Williams along with a little "Edelweiss". I know what you're thinking. Why those songs? Who knows- but I always end up singing them. Anyway- last night I was so tired as this was the second night without much sleep...so rather than keep my head laid back against the chair, I tilted my chin down and rested it lightly on his head.

About two seconds later, I feel Davis' little arm moving. He quickly reached up and pushed my chin back up where it was. I don't know if this comes across as funny via post as it did to me in real life. There we are, relaxing, snuggling, he is comfortable and content, and as I start to relax just a bit- he makes sure I understand that that is not what we do...that is not what he likes. So I giggle a bit. Wait five minutes and do it again. Sure enough- two seconds later I feel his tiny little hand wiggle out from under my arms to push my head back up.

He knows what he likes- and he likes our rocking chair routine.

Pat Pat Pat

One of the sweetest things that I always want to remember is the way little Davis pats me on the shoulder when I hold him. I guess I have always patted his back- and now he has started doing the same to me. Ever so gentle, it's so sweet. He also pats my face quite a bit. Love him.

Weekend in Review

So I had a very long weekend, really. I took Wednesday through Friday off because Carrie was out of town, so I got to spend extra time with Davis. What a week! I can certainly say that being a stay at home mom, while being the best job, is certainly the most tiring. At least when you are talking about watching an independent spitfire of a 16 month old boy. Seriously- he is everywhere. Pushing every limit, rejecting every food I give him, and looking at me ever so sweetly while he continues to do what I've told him not to. Hmmph.

Thursday Porter came over and it was amazing to see them play together. Davis was so excited to have him over and I do think Porter had fun too. The three of us raced up and down the hall until we pretty much fell over. Porter jumped to his heart's content and even got Davis to do a sort of bounce (I think he thought he was jumping though his feet never left the ground). I braved taking them to the neighborhood park- though we only stayed about 15 minutes because it was total CHAOS! They immediately went different directions and began to climb things. Scary. Even getting them both in and out of the car was a trick. When we got back, I let Davis rest a bit in his room because he was so tired and I had a little conversation with Porter about life and politics and his soon to be born baby sister.

Friday we went to San Antonio to see the Rodgers and eat some great mexican food at La Fonda...we then stayed at the Courtyard Marriott because they had an indoor pool. Davis was thrilled about this. We swam that morning- and he grinned from ear to ear the whole time. Following that we went to the zoo. SO much fun! I'll post pictures tomorrow. The first animals we saw were the crazy, squawking pink flamingos. Davis watched, motionless, with his jaw hanging wide open. Next we saw the monkeys- which he said "ooohhhh" and giggled about. Then he slept through the rest of the zoo and Davis and I enjoyed the excitement. I love the zoo- and it was fun to go with my little family.

Yesterday we celebrated my grandma's 80th birthday with brunch at Lambert's. Can't beat that. And today I'm back at work...and really, it feels like relaxing, in comparison. HA!

Side note: New Davis things
1) CAR! CAR! it's what we say every time we see a car or hear a noise.
2) Still talking on the phone all the time (phone could be a diaper, a battery, etc)
3) Really only eating chicken nuggets and sweet potato puree.
4) Climbing up on everything!
5) Really not into holding hands.
6) Sings "Zo, zo, zo" after we singing the Raffi zoo song.
7) Sleeping a ton- like 6:30 pm to 8:30 and 9:00 am. CRAZY!
8) So excited when daddy got home from Denver- cried every time he left the room.
9) Hugged Nikki about 100 times when we saw her the other day at her office.
10) Rejecting daddy and nuzzling head in my shoulder (SO SWEET)
11) Chasing Pico and patting him on the back.
12) Really meaning "thank you" when he says it- he says it with such sincerity and specifically when I give him things he loves like fruit snacks.
13) Pirate's booty beats goldfish.

Food and Fodder

This weekend has been glorious. We went to dinner with B and Courtney at Uchiko on Friday night and the sushi was to die for. We had the chef's special and he brought out 10 different courses of the craziest, tastiest sushi I've ever seen. The wine was flowing, the laughs were at an all-time high, and we just had the best double date ever.

Then Saturday the boys went to Fred while I attended the SxSW interactive festival with all my friends from work. It is still going on- and it has been so interesting and has really given me so much to think about. I love my job, and man, even more, I love Austin. So proud to live here where this amazing festival and conference happens each year. Saturday night I went to dinner at Trulucks with some of our clients- so fun- another fabulous meal. We had king crab legs and La Crema chardonnay. Can't beat it.

But the best part, if I'm honest, was having the house to myself for a bit. It wasn't long because I was busy with all the aforementioned events, but it was such a crazy feeling to walk into an empty, quiet house, and have it all to myself with no one to look out for. Of course I can say that because I knew the guys would come back today- and that was none too soon. I love them both so much.

So Davis is off to Denver tomorrow, I'm back at the conference, and Honey will be here to help out. TGFH.

Sleeper

Davis is sleeping quite a bit these days...so much so that yesterday I had to wake him up to say goodbye in the morning (he was not happy about that) and today I tried waking him up by opening the blinds and rustling around in his room, but he just kept snoozing. He has transitioned to a single midday nap and while that transition took a while, it's going well at this point. He goes down between 11:30 and 12:00 and the past few days he has slept for three hours at each nap. He is such a Bennett- we all love our sleep.

So lets see, what else is going on? This Friday we are going to Uchiko with Courtney and B for the 2nd meeting of the Santa Barbara Supper club- YES! Then SxSW begins, which is awesome, but I will miss my Davises as I am going to the interactive festival over the weekend and through Tuesday. They might go to Fred for a guy's weekend.

Starting next week, Bennett will be in Denver and Carrie will be on spring break so my mom is going to help out on Monday and Tuesday and then I am taking off work Wednesday through Friday. That Friday the three of us are going to go to SA to see Caitlin, Randy and Logan, eat great mexican food, and then we'll probably stay in a hotel (with an indoor pool for D) and then hit the zoo on Saturday morning. I've been looking forward to this for a while- I absolutely love the zoo. Especially the hippos. I hope Davis thinks it is as cool as I do. I really do.

The next week is Nanny's birthday, then that weekend is Nikki's birthday and Tony is having us over for dinner, which will be fun, and then one of my girlfriend's is having her bachelorette party the next night in Mason, then Bennett goes to Maine to see Lela! It's a busy month to say the least, and it doesn't really slow down there.

April brings Carrie Ryan's baby sprinkle- can't wait- then she is shooting more family photos for us on the 10th. Yay Sweet Louise. Then the 16th is the wedding of our good friends, Courtney and Benton and then oh my gosh it's almost May. Davis travels a bunch in May.

It's going to be a crazy busy spring- but most of it will be fun- and we're lucky to have such fun and exciting things to do. I would hate to be bored.

OOHHHH!

I have so many good photos to share- just need to find my camera cord. It's always something. Anyway- we had such a great weekend I was really sad when Sunday night rolled around. We met my grandparents in Llano for BBQ and some time at the park on Saturday. So fun, such good food, and a nice day to run around the park. My nanny gave Davis a sweet antique teddy bear that my mom had given her years ago. It's an antique and she had been studying antiques at the time, so it was especially sweet. She handed it to Davis, he bent down, put his hands on his knees (this is a new and common thing) and grinned from ear to ear. And then teddy had his first adventures in the sand. :)

Sunday we celebrated B's birthday and his mom invited about 8 of us over for an amazing Italian feast. To die for. Porter was there and Davis couldn't get enough of him. It's funny- every time he sees Porter- he chuckles with excitement and gets as close as he can and hugs him. It's adorable. Too bad Porter doesn't like it...one day. Ha. Anyway- yes I captured all of these things on camera and I will post this week.

This morning Davis woke up ready to assert himself. He said "no" to about 10 different things. This is new. He has said "no" for a while, but more about recognizing things he cannot do or touch. Now he is telling US no. Pandora's box has officially been opened.

This month is crazy busy. Davis is traveling a lot for work, I went to Dallas yesterday for work, SxSW interactive is coming up, Nikki and Nanny's birthdays are upon us, Davis is planning a trip to Maine to see Lela, we're going to the San Antonio Zoo. It's nuts. But I have been reminding myself lately that I can enjoy the craziness.

Peace out for now. Be on the lookout for adorable photos!
