Checking In

Just a few notes on what's been going on lately...and the most important note is that I need to find my camera so I can capture all of these amazing things! Where is it? Anyway...

- Hugs all the time, it's the best
- Saying "Aya?" all the time, grinning when we pretend it's Daddy calling
- Mimicry of words- Pico, No, Mama, Ball, etc.
- Matchbox cars!!! Loves all cars, but especially Matchbox cars!
- 4 new teeth- at one time- and no fussing. Amazing. He now has 12.
- Giant bug bite that made his arm swell and get red and hard
- Smiling in the car, talking to himself
- Giggling at Pico
- Snuggling on his blue snuggle blanket with his fuzzy blue elephant- favorites!
- Chicken, cheese, waffles, fruit snacks. That's it. Rejecting most everything else.
- Running!
- Loving Carrie...I mean loving her.
- New clothes, 18-24 months.

It's going way too fast.

JOY

Oh we are so joyful these days! We are smiling because spring is in the air or at least just around the corner. We're joyful that everything can be a phone and we can walk around all day saying "Aya?" and then just talk talk talk to our friends on our __________ (insert item here). We're thrilled we have a new little cousin, baby Lela. We're happy that we have a few fun events and trips coming up- including the ZOO! We giggle because we get things that are funny now- and we love to make funny faces. We are joyful because Carrie is an amazing nanny and she takes Davis to the park every day when it's nice. We think it's the bees knees when Pico licks our face. And most of all, we are excited that it's almost ice cream and swimming season!

I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Ooh, I just love Valentine's day. Red, pink, candy, love, what more could you ask for? I gave Davis a sparkly little Valentine's book this morning and talked to him a little bit about how fun Valentine's day is. Honey came over yesterday and surprised us all with Valentine's goodies. She has always made Valentine's day so fun. She got Davis a giant red ball, a bubble wand, some shades that he loves, and a water wiggler for when it gets warmer. She gave Bennett some workout stuff, and she gave me the cutest cupcake book I've ever seen. It has recipes and designs for cupcakes that look like everything from spaghetti and meatballs to penguins and horses. So fun- can't wait to make some with Davis and Bennett.

Yesterday Bennett and I volunteered in Davis' nursery at church. There were three adults and 9 kids and it was exhausting. Seriously. Three of them wouldn't stop crying the entire time...Davis was bulldozing everyone (he is so sweet but doesn't quite slow down upon approach) and the other 5 just wanted to play. Everyone wanted their sippy cup- and trying to figure out whose was whose and keep them in the right hands was absolutely insane. All in all, it was nuts, and/but it did inspire me to make sure his things are labeled. In fact, I ordered him a little red backpack with his name on it last night. So small and cute.

Anyway, the best part was that every once in a while, Davis would come over to me, squeeze me around the neck and then run off to keep playing. It was the best.

Happy Valentine's Day!

First Real Hug

Tonight, when I got home from work, after we sat down to play for a bit, Davis looked at me, grinned, took a couple running steps, jumped up and reached around my neck and squeezed. It felt like one million dollars. That's all- but that's everything. :)

I will NOT go to the bat cave...

So I bought Davis this cute little batmobile car that revs up and says "TO THE BAT CAVE!" and then charges across the floor...thought he would love it. He is TERRIFIED by it. It scared him for hours. Seriously- I showed it to him- tried to get him to warm up to it by giving it some time and then bringing it out again over the course of the day...but everytime he saw it he would just panic. For the rest of the afternoon on Saturday, each time he even heard a noise (a sneeze, a door shutting, pico, etc) he would scramble over and jump into my lap because of that little car. Poor guy.

Separately, a lot has been going on...here is an attempt to capture these things, with a few pictures for illustration.
1) Davis competed in the Tough Mudder- said it wasn't really all that tough.
2) We went to the Austin Modern Home Tour to see the Michael Hsu house furnished by Red (for more details, see evolving eloise).
3) I pulled Davis' wagon halfway across our neighborhood to check out the elementary school playground. Turns out there isn't one- so we just stopped and played in the grass. He thought it was the bees knees.
4) Davis is experiencing his first wave of separation anxiety. Never expected that. He cried the whole way through Sunday school on Sunday. Poor guy.
5) Bennett and I are going to start volunteering at our church nursery on Sundays.
6) Davis has expanded his diet- just slightly. He now likes cheese and cold cuts. Oh and hamburger meat.
7) Davis is really into putting things into other things and then taking them back out. He also is playing with cars all the time now- it's eclipsed his time spent reading. He makes a lot car noise when he pushes them all around.
8) He was so thrilled to see Honey at the home tour last weekend. It was sort of like "Oh- I know you. What are you doing here?"
9) We moved the fatboy into Davis' room- I don't know why we waited to do that- he loves it.
10) I am starting to get spring fever.
That's all for now.

Snugglebug

Yesterday, Davis stayed with Carrie, a potential new nanny. She is the daughter of one of my co-workers, has a background in childhood development, just graduated from college and could help out until she heads to grad school in the fall. Anyway- she is as cute as a button- and Davis loved her. He gave her super flirty eyes and kept backing into her legs when Bennett would come close, like "Dad, I'm with her."

We're still not sure if that is goign to be a better fit or if school is- so we're trying to figure all of that out in the next few weeks.

Anyway- when I got home- he was SOOO happy. And SOOO cuddly. Which never happens. That little boy has been independent and on the go since the beginning. He started holding his own bottle and preferred to lie on the ground while he drank it when he was about 4 months old. I walked in and he had the cheesiest little smile and came running to the door. Running is new- so the falling has increased if you can believe that. After Carrie left, he kept coming over to me, leaning against me, sitting on my lap, and even letting me hug him while he held still for long periods of time. WHAT?

He started to get fussy earlier than normal, so I thought, well I'm just going to try and rock him and give him his milk-- halfway knowing that he will want to get down and play the second we sit down in his room. Instead, not only did he let me hold him facing inward to me, like a little baby, he also wouldn't hold his own sippy cup. It was so crazy- so I rocked him and held his sippy cup, and sang to him...and even when he finished his milk, he just wanted to hug and snuggle. What a treat.

Bennett walked in with a face that first looked like "What is going on?" and then he said "That looks so cozy..." so we seized the opportunity and then he took a turn snuggling with Davis.

It was so sweet.
