Woot! Woot!

I lost two pounds this week. Well, I was in Boulder last week so couldn't go to WW, so really two weeks, but I'm still excited. I'll take the wins where I can.

On the flip side, guess who has somehow lost EIGHT pounds since we started the fitness challenge? UGH. DAVIS. TYPICAL. He basically just started thinking about losing weight and therefore apparently half a pound fell off each day. UGH.

So really I told him that if he loses all his weight in like no time, I'm going to give him a harder goal so I still feel like we're in this together. Maybe I'll make him start measuring his biceps...ha!

Voyeurism

Lately Davis has been waking up between 5:30 and 6:30, just to chat with the stuffed animals in his crib. He lies there making sounds for about 10-20 minutes and then sweetly falls back to sleep. We can hear him, but the best part is that we have a little video monitor in our room, so we can watch him. Watching what he does when he has no idea he is being watched is the best. That sounds a little creepy, but what I mean is that you get to see what he is doing without him trying to get your attention or get a reaction. This morning, in addition to lying there chatting, Davis was practicing what I guess I will refer to as chomping on air. I'm not sure if it's his new tooth that he is feeling or if it's just completely random, but he couldn't get enough of taking giant bites out of the air, over and over, with his new chomper.

Either way, he knows something is going on in his mouth. He is constantly sticking his finger in his mouth, feeling his tooth, trying to bite off our fingers, and what moving forward will be called "chomping on air". It's pretty cute to watch...

Toofer

One quick thing- Davis has his first little toofer coming through. It's the bottom right tooth when you are looking at him. We've been watching the little white speck and the other day when I got home from Boulder I stuck my finger in to check and I could feel a little bumpy ridge. HA! How fun is that?

AND- the kid can eat. I mean, are you surprised? He is a big boy for a reason! Yesterday he chowed down on green beans at Nikki's and then when he came home he ate a whole thing of prunes without even breaking stride.

Red Letter Week

Last week was such a good one, I know this post won't even do it justice. So many special things happened- to name a few:
1) The Indigo Girls happened to be playing in Boulder one of 2 nights I was in town. This might not sound like a big deal to you- but I am constantly checking to see if they are playing in Texas or anywhere close, and they never are. I was on a walk in Boulder one morning and saw that they were playing at this charming theater right by my hotel. Davis and Nikki got me scalped tickets while I was at my workshop. It was an amazing show- and while I was walking over to the theater (after a sushi date with myself) I stopped to hear a CU a capella group singing in the middle of this adorable street lined with local shops. Their second song was "Galileo" and I got chills. For me, it was one of those days that you feel was tailor made for you by God, as a little gift. I really appreciated it.

2) I got to attend an amazing workshop called Boulder Digital Works- and it was definitely a career high for me. I've never been around a group of such smart and amazing people. It was amazing.

3) I came home to Bennett and Davis waiting in the driveway with a sign for me...and then got treated to the biggest bouquet of flowers I've ever had and a dinner date at Jack Allen's. Just seeing Bennett and Davis (If you can't tell- I'm trying to make "Bennett" stick as a nickname for Big Davis) was so special- everything else was gravy on the mashed potatoes.

4) Nikki watched Davis for us Saturday night so we could go have dinner with the Ryans. It poured and we were able to sit under their amazing new covered porch and listen, talk, eat dinner, and drink lots of wine. It was probably one of the best Saturday nights I've had in so long.

5) Yesterday we planted some pots on our back porch and Bennett cleaned up the back yard a bit. Spring is in the air! Davis hung out on the porch in his little rainforest thing and just had the best time ever.

6) This morning and yesterday morning, Davis has woken up just chatting up a storm around 6:30. He talks for about 20 minutes and then falls back asleep. It's the best.

The week was just so refreshing. And I am thankful.

15 by 6.15

As you all know, I've been focused on losing the remaining weight from being pregnant. This weekend, Davis decided to join the cause. I'll kindly just say that we both have a little weight to lose post-pregnancy. He, being the sweet husband that he is, was matching me pound for pound there for a while...just so I wouldn't feel alone. :) Anyway- we decided to do a Bennett Family Challenge, pledging to lose 15 pounds by June 15th. This gives us just about two months so it should be doable. We chose the 15th for several reasons. 1) it's a nice mid-month number, 2) it gives us two months, 3) it's right around our 5 year anniversary, and 4) we want to feel okay in bathing suits this summer (that's more me than Davis, though).

Anyway- putting it out there on the blog so you will all know what we're trying to do and you won't woo us with booze or french fries or anything absolutely AMAZING like that.

P.S. Headed to Boulder today for work- please say a prayer for my flight and that my heart won't break from missing the Davises. I'll be back Friday- so it's short and I am thrilled about the opportunity- but it will be my first time away from baby Davis...hopefully he won't even realize I'm gone.

5 Month Photos

Is it me or does he look so big? Like bigger/older than a 5 month old? SO CUTE!

Baby Boy

is 5 months today. And I took the cutest pictures of him before work this morning- specifically for this post. Then I forgot my camera. Hmpph. I will add them later. In the meantime- when Davis was first born- I totally wondered what my life would be like around 5 or 6 months. Here is a little glimpse, for prosperity's sake.

At 5 months:
- I'm getting great sleep again, which is amazing. davis has slept through the night 4 of the last 7 nights and he wakes up happy most of the time.

- I feel like I know what I'm doing. I mean, I've been able to keep him alive for 5 months now (with big D's help) and I feel like the hardest part is probably over.

- I feel a bit more like myself. I'm more likely to go do things because I'm getting into the swing of things and I'm getting sleep, plus physically, I've begun to make a dent in the amount of pounds I need to lose (i've lost 10, with 20 to go), so that feels good.

- Davis is showing his personality more and more. He has the sweetest eyes and smile and I think my prayers will come to fruition that he will have a kind heart. Not to say he won't be a troublemaker like his dad, but I hope that in addition, he has a soft heart and sensitive spirit (also like his dad).

- He loves rolling around, grabbing toys, and he also loves being stood up on his feet. His face is absolutely like "Look at me. Look what I'm doing. I'm so big." It's adorable.

- I think he has identified his special things- there are two. One is a Jellycat (brand) elephant and one is a Jellycat bunny. They are so soft and he now sleeps with one of them each night and snuggles it like it's his lifeline. so cute.

- Big D and I are closer than ever. Mainly because we've had to rely on each other so much and we share an insane love for baby Davis that anyone else just can't understand.

Things are good.

Hoppy Easter

We don't care about candy in our baskets on easter- we care about clothes and toys- and two big easter bunnies (Nikki and Honey) certainly delivered for little D. Thank you ladies for keeping him so stylish. As you can see- we dressed him up all weekend. Thank goodness he is a good sport.

Farmers Market

Recent trip to the farmers market. We are so green.
