Davis and I are probably a sight for tired eyes on the way to work in the morning- mainly when one of our jams comes on the radio. Davis has two songs that just get him so amped up he squeals with joy and excitement. They are: Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Getting Back Together" and Maroon 5s: "Payphone".
While these choices might call his taste into question- especially Maroon 5- if you saw his excitement when they came on, you would want to "TURN IT UP SO WOUD!!!" too. Today, while sitting completely still in traffic, I started to whip my wet hair back and forth to the music. Sort of sideways headbanging...
OH.MY.GOSH. Davis got so amped up. We rolled back the sunroof, whipped our hair, and clapped and sang at the top of our lungs. Then I remember it was 8:15, and that I was surrounded by bored drivers, just looking for some sort of entertainment and I laughed to myself. Maybe everyone does this? I don't know...
Anyway, last night I indulged myself, and had Jennifer (the nanny) come back at 7:30 so I could go to the YMCA and get some groceries, for goodness sakes. It was so nice. I worked out at the Y, jogged, did the rowing machine (hard core) and then did weights and sit ups. I am starting to really enjoy working out. I'm having problems with my left knee- but other than that- I'm starting to feel a lot more fit. I got home at 9:30, showered, ate, put laundry away, worked, watched The Voice, and then went to sleep.
I woke up around 6 and couldn't fall back asleep. Not for the reasons you might think- but mainly because I was so tired and I just KNEW the second I fell asleep I would hear Davis' little feet pounding down the hallway- or worse yet- just busting my door open, almost giving me a heart attack. It's the worst. You'd think I would be used to him coming in in the mornings- but he barges in and scares the crud out of me. So I ended up rolling around and staying awake and of course, he didn't even wake up until 7:15.
He heard me say "Oh crud!" yesterday (luckily it was oh crud) and now says it all the time.
The night before last, while we were lying in his bed, he looked at me and said "you happy, mom?" It melted my heart. I ask him that a lot- so I guess it is starting to make sense to him to ask back.
Also last night, he got Holden to giggle. She was sitting in his little mini upholstered chair and he was laughing (quite obnoxiously really) and Holden started to slap her arms on her legs and giggle.
It was priceless.
Happy Tuesday.

The Thing About Being a Mom
is that you're always a little torn.
We threw Courtney's bachelorette this weekend and it was so much fun to celebrate her and spend time with girlfriends. But I was talking to Kirsten about how, even as early as Saturday morning, we missed our little ones. And it's hard because you know you've been totally looking forward to having the weekend away to yourself, and you're almost frustrated that you miss them...but you can't help it.
And then maybe you rush to get home Sunday morning instead of being leisurely...and then by the end of the day you're like "Why wasn't I leisurely???" But you know that you'd do the same thing next time- because even when you're away and you want to be- you also want to be home.
At least I do. And that's just one more reason why being a mom is tricky business. Great business, but tricky business.
Anyway, we had a blast on Friday night...we went to Swift's Attic for a small plate dinner and drinks, then went to a girlfriend's house for some wine tasting by a local sommelier. Then things got a little rowdy and next thing you know- one of our pregnant DDs is driving us home- and I am sleeping on Courtney's floor with the luggage even though there is a spot on the bed. Zoinks. If I had a penny for how many times I told people "life is short!" on friday- I'd be rich. Ha.

In just a number of hours. Okay not really- that's not me...but you get what I mean.
Saturday we went to Lakeway Resort and Spa and got to spend a little time in the sun right before the rainstorm hit. I really cannot believe that they are getting married this weekend...
Yesterday when I got home, I was so thrilled to see Davis and Holden and they were thrilled to see me too. Davis wouldn't leave my side for an hour at least. They took AMAZING naps (3 hours for Holden, 2 for Davis) and then we went to get Davis' hair cut, we went to Half Price Books, and then home. We played and played until bedtime and then hit the sack hard. Well sort of. Davis woke up three times last night. 1st needing some milk. 2nd needing some strawberry milk. 3rd missing his daddy. And 4th at 6:00 a.m. ready for the day. WHAT? What happened to my good sleeper?
Anyway- back at work this morning and feeling homesick for Bennett but excited about the weekend and a little tired. Got a really big deal signed this morning at work and feeling good about that. Sometimes, the projects that I help pitch or work on are super hyped and then there is all this pressure around actually bringing it in. This one was what I call a sleeper. Nobody expected it- and I surprised them. Waiting to have Gatorade dumped on my head and to be hoisted over the shoulders of my co-workers.
Probably going to be waiting a while. Ha.
Got some great pics of my little people this weekend- will upload and post them tomorrow. Bennett sent me a pic of Davis trying on his tuxedo on Friday night and my heart almost busted open right then and there. Oh, I will cry when he walks down the aisle. Oh lawd, give me strength.
Happy Monday.

Favorite Things
Last night while Davis and I were lying in bed...I asked him a series of questions. It went like this:
Davis, what's your favorite toy?
- My red monster truck.
What's your favorite snack?
- Ice cream with nemanems (M&Ms)
What's your favorite book?
- The Halloween Jack pumpkin book
What's your favorite song?
- Ummmm...
Also, I captured a quick video of Holden giggling while at the mall the other day. Enjoy!

Oh Canada...
I'm planning a trip to Canada. In my mind we're going this spring, and we'll either visit Montreal and Quebec City or Vancouver and Banff. And it's going to be amazing. If we go to Montreal and Quebec City, we'll walk the cobblestone streets, eat french food, and just laze about. If we go to Vancouver, we'll take the gondola through the mountains and also visit the kids amusement park there. Either way- it's going to be blissful.
We have been talking about going to Ethiopia with our church this spring- however- it's a 10 day trip and that might be a bit much with a 1 and 3 year old. Honey quickly said "How will you do that?" and since she said that, I've been thinking "How DO people do that?" We're not giving up on it- maybe we'll go in 2013- maybe we'll delay it. Who knows. But, to overcome the disappointment of possibly not going to Africa, I'm planning said trip to Canada.

Us in Canada:
This is literally how I play things out in my mind. Idea, visual, result. Sometimes I truly believe that my imagination is better than the real thing- which can be a good or bad thing.
Grand Canyon? Haven't really gone out of my way to go- feel like I can probably picture it as good or better than it is. Croquet club? Made it up so great in my mind that nothing real ever could compare.
Anyway- that's neither here nor there. Hope you're having a great Tuesday. Let me know if you have any recos on Canada.
P.S. Drove through Starbucks with Davis this morning on the way to school. He wanted "choc-what milk" and I said "We're not getting chocolate milk- you never drink it..." We pulled up to the speaker and he said "I'll tell her..." and loudly said "I wike some choc-what milk pease!" STINKER.

Holden Has Something to Say
Holden has been a very quiet baby. Doesn't cry much, doesn't coo or shriek much, and won't giggle unless you pull out every stop you can think of, and even then it's a battle...but this weekend, she decided she has something to say.
It was like she went to bed Friday night and woke up Saturday morning with something to say. And the way she pouts her mouth and fills her little cheeks with air as she talks is SO cute. Everything she does is so cute. We feel like she is a little angel.
She is also crawling all over the place- and cleaning my floors at the same time. She "crawls" a lot like Davis did. Belly crawls, one leg just hanging out, while the other one pushes her around- doing all the work. She can get up on her knees and she rocks back and forth- but I don't know if she'll ever do the full crawl- or just army crawl till she walks. She now can get from belly to a sitting up position though- so that has made her very happy.
Also, mark yesterday in history, because it was the first time EVER that Davis has kicked me out of bed for his dad. He's having a little daddy love these days. Yesterday he said "daddy" was his best friend and last night while we were snuggling- he looked at me and said "I want daddy come way with me..."
He is making great headway on potty training. We're almost there. He "checks his bladder" about 100 times a day- so it requires great patience- but it will be nice when he is in undies.
Worked out with Bennett and Davis last night. Davis LOVES it when "we" exercise at home. It cracks me up. I am SORE today.
This is going to be a very busy week. I'm headed to Chicago Wednesday for work, back sometime Thursday, and then this weekend I have Courtney's bachelorette, and then next weekend is the wedding. Getting very excited!

I don't think I ever finished posting pics from the Sweet Louise Photography shoot. Here are a few more. I love them. Carrie did a phenomenal job. Can't wait to get Christmas pics done of D and H.
